Two groups of students who provide outstanding leadership each year for the ANSC 117, Texas Barbecue class are the Jazzy Juniors and the Snazzy Seniors. These nicknames have been carried on over the years after the first group of Super Sophomores stayed on to continue to help out with the class, and some catchy names had to be devised to differentiate the three distinct groups.

The 2015 Super Sophomores were introduced on the first day of ANSC 117 and received their Texas Barbecue polos. Introductions also were made of this year’s Jazzy Juniors and Snazzy Seniors. These students provide assistance with the weekly set up of the kettles, smokers, and/or pits, with cooking/smoking/serving meat, and with clean-up and put-away of equipment and utensils. With this class, there is a lot of work that goes into preparing each week’s activity, and having experienced assistants makes everything go very well. In addition, the experience that goes with being a junior or a senior with respect to coursework, extracurricular experiences, and college life gives these students special credibility as they work with the freshmen during the semester.

Ray Riley and I look forward to working with these outstanding students again this year. They add so much to our class, and they are a pleasure to work with over all of these years.
